Frequently Asked Questions
Buying a Microscope
We make sure to go over your requirements with you before suggesting any specific microscope. In many cases, we can arrange a demonstration, giving you the opportunity to see the microscope in person and test it yourself.
As an independent business, we are able to recommend the microscope that best fits your needs and budget. Because we have access to models from a wide range of manufacturers, we can provide impartial advice with no obligation, ensuring you get the most suitable option.
Delivery and installation are free of charge within Dallas, TX. For locations outside the area, we do our best to keep costs to a minimum, and any charges will always be explained clearly before you make a purchase. If we’re unable to deliver in person, we’ll gladly guide you through the installation process to ensure your microscope is set up correctly.
Yes, we offer a variety of cameras that can be attached to most microscopes. In many cases, these can even be retrofitted to microscopes you already own, allowing you to take advantage of the latest camera technology.
We recommend replacing mercury vapour with LED illumination systems, as they provide a safer, longer-lasting lighting solution that meets current health and safety standards. Modern LED systems also offer key advantages, including reduced bleaching of fluorescence filters, a longer lifespan, and cost savings since bulbs no longer need replacing.

Microscope service and maintenance
In most cases, we recommend an annual service, depending on how frequently the microscope is used. Regular servicing helps prevent major issues and identifies potential problems early. Our engineers can also advise on any repairs or additional maintenance if required.
Each service visit involves a full inspection of your microscope, including decontamination, disassembly of major components, cleaning of all optical surfaces, lubrication of mechanical parts, and careful reassembly. Minor repairs and replacement of small parts that can be completed onsite are also included. If a repair needs to be carried out offsite, we will discuss this with you first and provide a no-obligation estimate before proceeding.
Before contacting us, it's worth checking a few common issues. First, make sure the power cable is properly connected, as it can sometimes become loose in the socket. If you have another microscope, try using a different power cable or wall socket. You can also try replacing the bulb if you have a spare available. If none of these steps work, please get in touch with us for assistance.
We provide anti-static dust covers for all microscopes, ensuring they are protected from dust and other environmental contaminants when not in use. In addition, an air blower can be used to quickly and safely remove any dust that has settled on the microscope.
A common cause is switching from a high-magnification oil objective to a dry objective without first removing the slide. This can leave immersion oil on the dry lens, resulting in a blurred image. Our engineers can clean the lens and provide guidance on best practices to help prevent this issue from happening again.
